An existing entrance staircase, carefully restored.
Tucked inside our Merchant on Malop project is a staircase that’s been carrying people up and down for over 100 years. Rather than replace it, we restored it, keeping the original character and craftsmanship intact.
The solid plaster walls were carefully patched by hand to blend seamlessly with the original finish. Missing sections of the arch moulding were re-created in situ, run and shaped on site to match the existing profile.
A rich black Japan stain was then applied to the treads and risers for a deep, traditional finish that suits the building’s era.
The original Baltic pine flooring was treated with the same respect. Damaged boards were replaced and toothed in with matching timber, then the whole floor was sanded back and recoated in soft grey tones that complement the space.
Heritage work is about respecting what’s already there. Some things are worth saving.
Renovations & Extensions. Professionally managed. Built with care.
